- Develop detailed electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for commercial and institutional building projects.
- Prepare lighting layouts, power distribution plans, life safety systems (including fire alarm design), grounding, and low-voltage systems.
- Produce single-line diagrams, load calculations, panel schedules, and equipment layouts.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure fully coordinated design deliverables.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with the Canadian Electrical Code, OBC, and relevant industry standards.
- Contribute to the preparation of tender documents, technical reports, and cost estimates.
- Participate in internal design reviews, quality assurance processes, and clash detection.
- Conduct site visits for field verification, construction reviews, and coordination with contractors.
- Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs and clarifying design intent.
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of electrical design experience within commercial or institutional building environments.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (Revit strongly preferred).
- Solid understanding of electrical building systems including lighting, distribution, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of codes, standards, and best practices for electrical building design.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a collaborative design team.
- Experience working with engineering consulting firms or design-build contractors.
- Exposure to lighting calculation tools such as AGi32 or Dialux.
- Direct client-facing or project coordination experience.
- Eligibility for or membership in OACETT, PEO (EIT), or P.Eng. pathways.
