- Load, unload, and move steel materials manually or using equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, or pallet jacks.
- Assist in organizing and staging materials for production or shipment.
- Assist skilled workers in cutting, welding, grinding, or shaping steel.
- Prepare work areas by gathering tools, setting up equipment, and cleaning up after tasks are completed.
- Clean and maintain tools, machines, and work areas to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Report any damaged equipment or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Comply with company policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- This role requires working in industrial settings, which may involve exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures.
- The Steel Helper must always adhere to strict safety standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic understanding of steel materials and industrial tools.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to (insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs.) and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Familiarity with basic safety practices in an industrial environment.
- Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, noise).
- Previous experience in a steel mill, fabrication shop, or industrial setting is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of welding, grinding, or machine operation is advantageous.
- Frequent lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, if necessary
- Environmental conditions: protected from weather conditions but not from temperature changes
- Outside environmental conditions: no effective protection from the weather
- Hazards: includes such physical conditions, as proximity to moving mechanical parts/vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or to chemicals
- Medium work: exerting up to 50 lb of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 lb frequently
- Heavy work: exerting up to 100 lb of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lb frequently, and/or up to 20 lb of force constantly to move objects.
