Position SummaryThe Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM). The successful candidate will be based at the University of Regina and will play a central role in teaching within the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program, with a particular focus on the HIIM major. This major is accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management and is designed to build graduate-level capacity in health data governance, information systems, analytics, and health administration.JSGS provides a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with a strong commitment to research, teaching and service. As part of the unit's ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, we strongly encourage applications from members of equity-seeking communities including women, Indigenous persons, visible minorities, and persons with disabilities.Position RequirementsJSGS seeks a researcher who focuses on an area relevant to health policy and / or health administration. Applicants must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant field such as Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Biomedical Informatics, Public Health, Health Policy, or a closely aligned discipline. Ideal candidates will have a clearly defined research program related to health information systems, data governance, health analytics, digital health innovation, AI-driven health systems, health data privacy/security, or the strategic use of health data in policy and administration.Evidence of teaching effectiveness is essential, and experience teaching in online or hybrid environments is considered an asset. The successful candidate can contribute to a suite of HIIM courses including JSGS 843 (Data Science for Health Analytics), JSGS 858 (Enterprise Information Management), JSGS 887 (Clinical Terminologies and Classification Systems), and JSGS 888 (Health Informatics and Information Technology), which are central to equipping students with the skills necessary to manage and apply health information across a range of organizational contexts. JSGS maintains a standard teaching load of four courses per year. Applicants should also demonstrate a capacity to supervise graduate students.The successful candidate will contribute to the academic life of JSGS through collegial service and governance, including committee work, program administration, and engagement with students, the university, and the broader scholarly and community sectors.While not required, professional certification in health information management, such as the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) credential or eligibility for such certification through the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), would be considered a strong asset. Experience working in professional roles within health information management or informatics, particularly within Canadian healthcare settings, is highly desirable. Familiarity with Canadian health data standards, enterprise systems, and clinical classification systems will also be viewed positively. Candidates with experience working in or with Indigenous communities, or with public sector and healthcare organizations, are especially encouraged to apply.Please note, this is an in-person position.About the Program
The MHA-HIIM major at JSGS equips graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to support the development and implementation of policies and systems for the management, quality, availability, and use of health system information. Students gain a deep understanding of health informatics, information governance, privacy and security, digital health system, clinical data classification, and strategic decision-making using information technology. The program prepares graduates for careers across a range of domains including business intelligence and sustainability, data quality and information management, health information analytics and research, data and information governance policy and standards, information technology, organization and behavioural management, and privacy and security.Physical Demands
