- Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on railcars and locomotives.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine corrective action.
- Conduct repairs on engines, brakes, couplings, suspensions, HVAC, and other mechanical systems.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults in mechanical components.
- Replace worn or defective parts using appropriate tools and methods.
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and other fabrication work when required.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance work, and parts used.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and railway regulations
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff, and supervisors to resolve issues.
- Respond to emergency repairs or on-track breakdowns when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
- ? Accurately document all maintenance, inspections, and repairs using computer-based systems.
- ? Enter parts usage, work orders, fault codes, and inspection results into digital maintenance management software (CMMS).
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship in mechanics preferred.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in a rail, heavy equipment, or industrial setting.
- Knowledge of railway systems, mechanical assemblies, and regulatory standards is a plus.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments.
- Welding and fabrication experience is an asset.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, and on rotating shifts if required.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy parts and perform manual labor.
- Work is typically performed in a rail yard environment.
- Exposure to loud noises, grease, oil, and moving machinery.
- May require travel to remote locations for field repairs.
- Journeyman certification in Heavy Equipment or Diesel Mechanics (Red Seal in Canada is a plus).
- Valid driver's license.
- Railway Safety training or certification.
