Existing Vacancy: YesDescription:The University Health Network (UHN); Sinai Health (SH) and Women's College Hospital (WCH) is seeking an applicant to fulfill the role of Pain Medicine Division Head in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be July 2026, with the specific date to be determined based on mutual agreement.Pain medicine is an integral component of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management across our UHN-SH-WCH sites. Our multidisciplinary program provides care to thousands of patients suffering from acute, transitional, and chronic pain. In addition, we have a comprehensive pain-education program that attracts medical students, residents, fellows and practicing physicians as observers from all over the world and a pain-research program that has had global impact. In addition, our pain-programs at UHN, SH, and WCH are key partners in the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI), which is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary academic pain program serving as the hub for chronic pain care in the region.The role of the Pain Medicine Division Head is for a five-year term, with possibility of renewal for a second five-year term following a structured review process.The responsibilities of the Division Head will include:Leadership
- Supports the mission and vision of the Division and Department to all faculty.
- Provides oversight, support, advocacy and opportunities for growth for all Division medical faculty in the areas of clinical care, education, research, quality, innovation and administration.
- Collaborates with the Department Head, Clinical Directors and PMD to ensure the clinical and academic mission is successful.
- Collaborates with departmental leadership to develop a divisional research plan integrating clinical, translational, basic science, quality improvement and health services research opportunities.
- Encourages cross-divisional and departmental research and training collaborations.
- Oversees the delivery of clinical care to ensure patients receive timely, high quality, and safe patient care.
- Identifies evidence-based advances in clinical care of patients with pain and works with Leadership at the three hospital systems and the Department head to implement these advances.
- Organizes regular meetings and educational events with faculty to discuss issues related to clinical care, academic activities, administration, and finances.
- Actively initiates and participates in fundraising activities in collaboration with the hospital Foundations.
- Develops and maintains a robust quality assurance and improvement program.
- Responsible for reviewing quality metrics and outcome analysis with the goal to make graduated performance improvements to meet and exceed divisional, departmental, program, and institutional benchmarks.
- Contributes to the development of a divisional operational budget with support from the clinical director, department head, PMD, and hospital Finance, with a goal to achieve a surplus or zero-deficit by fiscal year end.
- Evaluates and establishes clinical productivity standards for all faculty in the division.
