- Lead and develop a high-performing team of control room operators by providing mentorship, managing performance, and facilitating training and development initiatives
- Maintain 24/7 Control Room shift schedules and manage efficient response to the system emergencies and power interruptions. Coordinate with field personnel and external agencies to restore power quickly and safely and provide back-up support in the Control Room during emergencies.
- Ensure that outage and system status information is accurate, and effectively communicated. Support decision-making and transparency during both routine operations and critical events.
- Participate in daily job planning and operational meetings. Review and approve complex overhead and underground distribution switching orders to ensure compliance with the Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC).
- Lead the execution of System Control Room programs and initiatives, monitor progress, and implement changes to optimize reliability and efficiency. Champion data-informed strategies to enhance grid performance and resilience.
- Identify opportunities for system optimization, efficiency improvements, and capacity planning.
- Participate in short-term and long-term planning of the distribution system with Operations and Grid Modernization departments.
- Support special projects that advance the organization modernization efforts and operational readiness of the control room.
- Participate in the preparation and maintenance of the Power Restoration Plan by enacting and managing all functions relating to effective restoration of power. Conduct regular emergency response practice scenarios.
- Build strong partnerships with the IESO, Hydro One, and neighbouring LDCs to support coordinated planning and seamless operation of the transmission system
- Be a visible champion of a proactive safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Electrical Utility Safety Association (EUSA) regulations.
- Maintain and develop Customer Operating Agreements, policies, and procedures
- Provide distribution system capacity and planning information for the development of annual capital budgets, short and long-range station and rebuild forecasts, and SCADA/OMS maintenance/upgrade recommendations as well as input into the department budgeting process.
- Successful completion of The MEARIE Group's Journeyperson Electrical Operator Program.
- Post-secondary education from a college or university in a related field (Engineering or Electrical Technician/Technologist) or equivalent training and experience
- Knowledge of OHSA, IHSA, UWPC, and required operational technology (i.e., SCADA, OMS and GIS).
- A minimum of 5 years' related experience in a unionized utility environment.
- Ontario Utility Work Protection Code Certificate
- Must hold a valid G licence with insurable driving record.
- Fully proficient with MS Suite applications
