Brief Description:Our employer is a synagogue & school that made it a high priority to connect youth and young families to communal synagogue life.They are looking for a creative educational leader who wants to imprint their love of Judaism, pride for Israel and Tikkun Olam on the next generation! The successful candidate will develop and implement all youth (JK to age 18) and young family (with kids 12) programming. This includes both ritual and non-ritual-related programs, events and activities - all designed to ensure positive and memorable Jewish experiences for our community.Programming promotes Jewish identity and community involvement through meaningful social, educational, religious, and social action activities - always promoting the ideals and goals of the congregation. Community outreach, engagement and ambassadorship are cornerstones for success in this role. It is essential that the candidate fosters a sense of community for both synagogue and school.Job Function:Youth & Young Family Programming
  • Planning, programming and overseeing events and programs for the youth and young families in the local Jewish community.
  • Coordinating Jewish holiday parties and events that engage the local Jewish youth and young families.
  • Reaching out to parents in the shul and local Jewish community by phone or email to inform them about synagogue youth programming and to listen to what they are looking for in their local synagogue community.
  • Organizing volunteers to assist and lead programs, events and activities for the shul's Youth & Young Family Programming, as well as assist with contacting and engaging parents in the local Jewish community.
  • Designing flyers and other advertising materials for Youth/Young Family programming, or delegating the tasks to the Parent Council or synagogue volunteers
School Administration
  • Working with the Bookkeeper to prepare school-year enrollment packages
  • Preparing "Back To School'' packages for parents and students in September
  • Maintaining the student files, attendance records and school database
  • Editing and distributing school Report Cards received from teachers at the end of the school year
  • Preparing teaching materials as requested by the teachers
  • Sending out weekly emails to the parents about Hebrew School updates and events
ShinShinim Site Supervisor
  • Creating, assisting and guiding the ShinShinim with their programming that engages our membership and the local community and increases Israel engagement in accordance with the mandates of UJA and the synagogue
  • Participating in the interview and selection process, host family recruitment, and UJA sessions
Shabbat Youth Activities
  • Plan and run Shabbat Youth activities that relate to the Torah and Jewish holidays from 10:00am - 12:00pm that engage pre-B'nei Mitzvah Jewish youth.
High Holy Day Youth Services Coordinator
  • Planning, programming, and supervising all Youth Services, Toddler and Babysitting services on the 4 High Holy Days:
  • Rosh Hashanah Day 1, 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • Rosh Hashanah Day 2, 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • Kol Nidre, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
  • Yom Kippur, 9:00am - 1:00pm and 5:30pm - 8:00pm
  • Recruiting and training volunteers for all youth services
  • Youth services will include:
  • Parent/Adult & Toddler service for ages 0-4
  • Youth Service ages 5-8
  • Youth service ages 9-11
  • ShinShinim program ages 12-13
  • Coordinating with the Rabbi and/or others to create age and Judaica appropriate programs

Job Requirement:
  • A Jewish background and a passion for Jewish life
  • A familiarity with and respect for Conservative Judaism and sensitivity to its practices, including Shabbat and Kashrut
  • Relevant Jewish program development and delivery experience
  • Proven leadership skills, including experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Experience working with children and teens, and strong role model and mentor to youth
  • Creative, optimistic and passionate about making a difference in the future of Jewish youth
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to "roll up their sleeves'' and get the job done - whatever it takes!
  • Adept at creating and maintaining a lively and fun social media presence
  • Comfort level with making personal telephone calls to families and teenagers
  • Effective management and communication skills
  • Familiarity with reporting to Board of Directors, AGM
  • Willingness to work on some Shabbats, some evenings, some Jewish holidays and some Sundays, as required
  • Foster a sense of one community for school and synagogue
  • Attendance at combined Youth and Young Family synagogue events
  • Foster a sense of pride and joy for Israel and our Jewish heritage
