Brief Description:Our employer is dedicated to supporting the best and brightest scientists conducting cancer research in Israel.They are looking for an individual to oversee the financial operations, reporting, and controls of ICRF Toronto. Reporting to the CEO, this role ensures the integrity of financial information, supports budgeting and audit processes, and provides practical financial guidance to support organizational effectiveness and sustainability. This is a hands-on role suited for a detail-oriented finance professional who can both execute and advise, with experience in nonprofit accounting and a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and process improvement.Job Function:Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Oversee and/or prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Maintain audit-ready financial records and documentation
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and nonprofit reporting requirements
- Support the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting
- Monitor actuals vs. budget and provide variance analysis
- Advise the CEO on financial performance, trends, and risks
- Support financial planning related to fundraising activities and operations
- Monitor cash flow, banking activity, and liquidity needs
- Oversee timely processing of payables, receivables, and deposits
- Reconcile revenue streams, including donations, pledges, grants, and events
- Coordinate grant disbursements in alignment with ICRF processes and timelines
- Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with CRA charitable regulations and internal policies
- Support the preparation of required filings and financial disclosures
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting processes
- Ensure proper documentation and financial governance practices
- Donation tracking and reconciliation
- Pledge management
- Event revenue tracking
- Issuance of tax receipts
- Ensure financial accuracy and transparency in donor reporting and restricted funds
- Support payroll coordination, expense tracking, and vendor payments
- Provide oversight of the financial aspects of contracts and vendor relationships
- Collaborate with internal staff and the ICRF national/international offices as needed
Job Requirement:Education & Credentials
- CPA designation (required)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Experience as a Controller or senior finance professional (fractional or full-time)
- Strong experience in nonprofit or charitable organization accounting (highly preferred)
- Experience managing audits and working with external auditors
- Familiarity with fund accounting, restricted funds, and donor reporting
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or ASNPO)
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Excel
- Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems (e.g., DonorPerfect) is an asset
- Ability to manage and reconcile multiple revenue streams (donations, events, grants)
- Close attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills in a part-time environment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
- Clear and professional communication skills
- Discretion and integrity in handling confidential financial and donor information
- Practical, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to improve systems and processes
