The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.CLSI is seeking an Education Specialist to join our dynamic education team dedicated to transforming STEM learning across Canada. Our team supports educators in bringing experiential, inquiry-based approaches into their classrooms through immersive, hands-on professional learning opportunities, both onsite and in collaboration with schools and organizations. Grounded in a commitment to inclusivity, we integrate Indigenous Ways of Knowing and honour Traditional Knowledge in all aspects of our work. We partner closely with educators and educational institutions to design customized development experiences, and we proudly host innovative programs such as our award-winning Students on the Beamlines initiative.The Education Specialist plays a key role in designing, coordinating, and delivering STEM-focused educational programs, projects, events, and collaborative initiatives that support the strategic scientific goals of the Canadian Light Source. Working closely with both internal teams and external partners, the Education Specialist develops high-quality learning experiences and educational resources suited for a wide range of audiences, including formal high school and post-secondary education settings as well as informal learning environments.Responsibilities:
  • Leads initiatives through CLS educational programming to support broader CLS goals and mandate targeting educators and diverse communities locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
  • Collaborates with CLSI staff, educators, subject matter experts, Elders, Traditional Knowledge keepers, or other organizations to create and facilitate the successful delivery of new and ongoing CLSI educational programming.
  • Actively cultivates relationships with educators, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers in various communities on Turtle Island and internationally so that mainstream science and Indigenous perspectives are weaved throughout all educational resources and programming.
  • Develops and maintains production and distribution of CLS Education resources that promote CLS Educational programming or provide educators STEM education within their teaching.
  • Supports and maintains the CLS Education virtual presence including but not limited to the Education section of the CLS website, the CLS Education website, and social media.
  • Provides solutions to groups or individuals seeking advice and consultation in preparing pedagogical centric activities or resources internally or externally.
  • Recognizing that the position has responsibility for programs involving minors, this position ensures that safety is the primary consideration in driving decisions and actions of CLS education programming.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Education or Science is required.
  • Strong digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; experience with website design or video editing would be an added benefit.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience is required; formal or informal science teaching experience is considered beneficial but not mandatory. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience working with youth in formal or informal education, outreach, or program development and delivery.
  • Experience integrating Indigenous Ways of Knowing or working with Indigenous communities would be considered advantageous.
  • Proficiency in French or an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
  • Ability to provide a vulnerable sector background check.
Salary Range: The Salary Range is $65,994 - $89,250 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experienceRemuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
