Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Plant Manager, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the quality departments in the Humberline facility with 5 direct reports. Areas of responsibility would include product and environmental test programs, regulatory compliance, HACCP system maintenance, pest control, sanitation, team development, QA budget control, maintenance of BRC Standards.Key Accountabilities
  • Responsible for ensuring that the company’s HACCP, Pre-requisite and GFSI system requirements are being met and reassessed on a continuous basis through guidance, direction, follow up and leadership to the HACCP Coordinator, Analyst and Technicians in the facility.
  • Manage environmental swab programs.
  • Product & Ingredient test programs ensuring proper hold and release procedures are being maintained.
  • Ensure sample collection and analysis are carried out as per written procedures.
  • Appropriate follow up and corrective actions are being carried out based upon result findings.
  • Responsible for direct communication with local CFIA staff on any major issues or concerns (failed product test results, requests for product dispositions, etc).
  • Ensuring that all new regulatory requirements as communicated through the IIC are being implemented as necessary in each manufacturing facility.
  • Provide guidance to QA/HACCP Coordinators in managing CFIAconcerns and working with the appropriate operations staff to implement the necessary changes or corrective actions.
  • Assistance/leadership during CFIA or other regulatory agency audits of the manufacturing facilities.
  • Generation and presentation of plant level product and QA FS performance metrics.
  • Providing guidance to operations team members on interpreting regulatory requirements (new construction, processing regulations, label restrictions, etc).
  • Assist Director of QA/FS during recall / product withdrawals in terms of communication of activity / deliverance of requested material to CFIA.
  • Assist in the development of the QA department’s budget as well as providing input into the development of operational budgets concerning pest control, outside sanitation costs.
  • Providing input in the development of CER’s when relating to food safety / quality improvement.
  • Lead contact with outside pest control.
  • Responsible for the implementation and execution of regular sanitation audits complete with written reports and action plans based on findings.
  • Designated back up to the HACCP Coordinator and secondary back up to the QA Analyst and technicians.
  • Following up on customer complaints in terms of reviewing internal documents, providing data to support a conclusion to the issue, etc.
  • Responsible for the development of employee knowledge and skill sets through day to day coaching and providing training opportunities.
  • Completion of annual performance appraisals including business and personal growth objectives for each direct report.
  • Assist the Director of QA and Foods Safety (designated back up) in food safety recall or crisis situations.
  • Other duties as determined by the Director of QA and Food Safety.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and extensive experience with manufacturing practices relating to dry cured RTE deli meat products.
  • Knowledge and experience in GFSI Standards.
  • Strong understanding and experience with HACCP principles and government regulations in regards to meat processing.
  • Computer knowledge and ability to work with various programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab) to create word documents, spreadsheets, reports and written letters of response.
  • Organizational skills and the strong ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) as required to interact with various levels of management, customers, suppliers, present findings and represent the company on various audits.
  • Strong sense of teamwork, leadership and ability to work with any functional group of individuals including senior management.
  • Bachelor of science or college diploma in food science or other related science discipline.
  • Able and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Task and detail oriented.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity, while respecting the established standards.
