- Schedule - Procure goods and services in a timely manner to meet the project schedule
- Cost - Achieve the lowest total acquisition cost and negotiate savings where possible
- Quality - Responsible for suppliers' quality performance; engage with internal stakeholders such as engineering, technical inspectors, quality and cataloguing to resolve any technical issues that may emerge
- Follow Babcock Canada's commercial guidelines and ensure all contracts are within the agreed terms and conditions
- Standing Offer - The buyer may be asked to negotiate Standing Offer Agreements and/or Service Level Agreements with suppliers
- New market analysis and supply chain design in support of new business.
- Manage Supply. The buyer shall manage suppliers and will be responsible for the supplier's relationship:
- Engage proactively with the suppliers to develop formal relationships
- Ensure that goods and services are delivered on-time; proactively identify and communicate risks to internal customers, and develop mitigation actions
- Act as the point of contact for all supplier issues pertaining to logistics, invoicing, documentation, etc.
- Support Category Management and assist in developing category/supplier strategies
- Monitor supplier performance using key performance indicators (KPI's) and develop action plans with suppliers to generate improvements
- Identify and develop new suppliers to drive cost and schedule improvements to meet business needs
- Manage the Order Book - The buyer is responsible for the entire procurement lifecycle, including but not limited to requisition to purchase order, delivery, payment and closeout
- Assist the Senior Buyer and the Procurement Manager as and when required with the day-to-day operation and management of the procurement activities
- 2+ years of experience in a similar role
- Experience in sourcing and supplier selection, supplier performance management, supplier capability assessments and supplier risk management
- Critical thinking and demonstrated problem solving skills
- A professional attitude with a proven track record of managing complex internal and external stakeholders
- Has the ability to analyse information while using critical thinking
- Has the ability to act professionally to internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Knowledge of commercial business practices and proven communication skills, both verbally and written
- Designation through the National Institute of Supply Chain Management, or Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations (considered an asset)
- Hold a Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, or another degree/diploma (considered an asset)
- Experience working in an industrial supply chain (considered an asset)
- Experience with computerized purchasing systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools (considered an asset)
- Experience with Life Cycle Material Management and the Repair and Overhaul process (considered an asset)
- Experience within the Defence / Marine industry is highly desirable
- Must be eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
