RoleReporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Commissioning Technologist Student will be an integral part of the Commissioning team, gaining hands-on experience in the field with primary and secondary power equipment. You will assist in commissioning and testing equipment and learn how medium- to high-voltage substation power delivery systems operate, including breakers, switchgear, relays, transformers, and more. You will be paired with a senior team member who will mentor you and provide exposure to many different aspects of the industry, helping you build practical skills and a strong foundation for your future career.What You’ll Do:In this role, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of activities related to medium- and high-voltage power systems, including:
  • Working safely alongside all members of the construction and commissioning team
  • Assisting with testing and maintenance of electrical equipment
  • Supporting the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control equipment in transmission substations
  • Learning to read blueprints, analyze test reports, and identify potential improvements
  • Working with high-voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switches, and control circuits for protection and monitoring systems
  • Calibrating electronic equipment and instruments as needed
  • Using industry-standard test equipment, including:
  • TTR (Transformer Turns Ratio) testers
  • Omicron secondary test sets
  • Winding resistance testers
  • Omicron CPC 100
  • CT saturators
What You’ll Learn:
  • Hands-on experience with substation commissioning and electrical testing
  • Industry standards and safety practices for medium- and high-voltage systems
  • How to work with and interpret technical drawings and reports
  • Practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
RequirementsWho We’re Looking For:
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program (Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or similar)
  • Strong interest in learning about electrical power systems
  • Comfortable working in a team environment and following safety procedures
  • Detail-oriented with good communication skills
  • Eager to learn and take guidance from senior team members
  • Able to work out of town on a shift rotation (e.g. 4 and 3, 8 and 6, etc.)
  • Willing to take a drug and alcohol test according to local laws
