- Manage the Quality Assurance program to meet all required quality certification and customer requirements ensuring adherence to required codes and standards.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Quality Assurance department.
- Lead, manage and coach the Quality Assurance team to ensure continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Ensure timely, effective response to customer inquiries and quality concerns.
- Coordinate and conduct training to ensure employees are qualified to perform assigned tasks.
- Develop and maintain document review and audit scheduling system for the QMS activities at BWXT.
- Revise and maintain procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with regulatory, governing standards and customer requirements.
- Ensure that Quality Records are produced, filed and maintained to meet the applicable requirements.
- Performs audits on production and quality processes for conformity to regulatory and customer requirements.
- Ensure process compliance through the development of simple yet comprehensive procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, forms, templates, checklists, worksheets, and other product process related documentation.
- Support the QC Supervisor in identifying patterns and problem areas in the inspection process and develop and implement effective strategies that will ensure product quality and efficiency in production processes.
- Ensure the QMS and regulatory compliance requirements are effectively maintained, implemented, and monitored.
- Maintain internal quality specifications and documents as required by BWXT, customers or regulatory authorities.
- Ensure departmental performance, using established metrics, as well as introducing new and appropriate measurements as needed. Report these metrics and key performance indicators to upper management.
- Participate in Quality Planning activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems during new tool or process design and startup.
- Involved in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to review metrics for NCR's, rework and scrap.
- Develop process improvement plans using a variety of Quality and Continuous Process Improvement tools, including but not limited to: Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SPC, engineering studies, DOE, Gauge R&R, etc.
- Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Involved in root cause analysis of non-conformances and associated actions required to correct issues.
- Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.
- Assist Engineering and Production with inspection planning to incorporate the right level of inspection in the Work Instructions.
- Assist and support team members with problem solving, countermeasure development, and continuous improvement.
- Provide support for both internal and external audit activities, as necessary. Including customer audits.
- Follow-up on all countermeasures developed for in-house and customer problems.
- Communicate and interact with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain and Sales to resolve customer complaints and returns.
- Complete quality documentation as necessary (non-conformance reports, dimensional inspection reports, engineering change requests etc).
- Communication of quality program status and quality initiatives at employee and staff meetings
- Post-secondary education in metrology, quality or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience and education.
- 5+ years of experience working in a quality management or supervisory role.
- Experience managing a Quality Management System.
- Experience working with CNC precision-machined components an asset
- Experience working in the nuclear, aerospace, defense or manufacturing industries an asset.
- Understanding of ASME Section III Code and the ISO 9001:2015, CSA N285.0 and CAN3-CSA N299 quality standards an asset.
- Working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma concepts would be an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering component drawings including an understanding of metrology and GD&T.
- Familiar with Quality Metrics/KPIs (COPQ, FPY, KARMA)
- Proficient in the use of MicroSoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate, motivate and lead teams in the pursuit of optimal resolutions to problems.
