Reporting to the Executive Director, Operations, the Building Services Manager manages the delivery of building services, central stores, receiving services and acts as a resource for laboratory renovations and office renovations on behalf of the Faculty of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all day-to-day maintenance service requests to Building Services through the timely processing and follow-up of service requests. Interfaces with Shop Supervisors and Project Leaders to coordinate maintenance and project work performed in the Zones.
  • Project manage improvements to department offices, common spaces, medicines classrooms, medicine meeting rooms and other projects as directed by the Executive Director, Operations Faculty of Medicine.
  • Develops and administers Building Services and Central Stores operating budgets.
  • Acts as the Faculty of Medicine's Safety Officer for the Tupper/CRC Complex, LSRI and CHEB, the incumbent is responsible in conjunction with the Safety Office, for environmental health and safety issues as well as security issues within the buildings.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for Central Stores. Conduct periodic reviews of central stores operations. Specifically, ensure the operations meet the needs of the researchers by providing products and services relevant to the researchers.
  • Manage one technical NSGEU position, which includes, hiring, training and performance, appraisal.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree, with five years' progressively responsible experience with demonstrated work exposure to senior level of management (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Formal training and experience in occupational/environmental health and safety, with technical training, including chemical, medical and basic electronic technology, biomedical safety, and radiation safety.
  • Computer skills, which, at a minimum, include word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proven people skills and proficiency in the management and supervision of unionized staff.
  • Experience or training in project management.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
Assets
  • Experience working with FAMIS or other online work management systems.
  • Facility management experience in a hospital/medical research facility environment.
