- Serve as a member of the Hotel Executive Committee, providing strategic financial insight to support operational and commercial decision-making.
- Partner with the General Manager and department leaders to drive profitability, cost efficiency, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, rolling forecasts, and long-range financial planning.
- Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, cash management, and capital asset accounting.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian GAAP and corporate standards.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition across rooms, food & beverage, spa, retail, and events.
- Look after the financial requirements ownership
- Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Ensure full compliance with British Columbia provincial legislation, including:
- Employment Standards Act (BC)
- PST, GST, and municipal hotel taxes (MRDT)
- Coordinate and lead external audits, tax filings, and statutory reporting.
- Act as primary liaison with banks, auditors, insurance, legal and regulatory authorities.
- Review Annual Hotel Contracts
- Collaborate with department heads to manage labor costs, operating expenses, and productivity benchmarks in a unionized and/or non-union environment.
- Monitor inventory, purchasing controls, and vendor contracts to ensure compliance with corporate and brand standards.
- Evaluate capital expenditure requests and track ROI on approved projects.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the hotel finance team, fostering a positive culture of accountability, accuracy, and service excellence.
- Ensure proper training on financial policies, systems, and internal controls.
- CPA designation required (CPA, CA / CPA, CMA / CPA, CGA).
- Minimum 5-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within luxury or full-service hotels in Canada.
- Strong working knowledge of BC-specific payroll, labor, and tax regulations.
- Experience with hotel accounting and property management systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle, Opera, or similar).
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Strong written and verbal English required.
