
Journeyperson Powerline Technician/Powerline Technician Apprentice // Ottawa River Power

- Perform live line work on the distribution system
- Install and maintain poles, transformers, high voltage wire/cable and distribution system assets
- Perform service upgrades for residential and commercial connections
- Ensure work is performed efficiently in accordance with all relevant legislation, safety regulations and other requirements to which the Company subscribes or is obligated to enforce
- Perform streetlight maintenance and installation
- Successful candidate is expected to maintain residency at a location permitting not more than a 35-minute travel time (including inclement weather) to ORPC Operations Centre in Almonte
- Use various pieces of test equipment and power tools
- Assist other departments with both scheduled and emergency work as required
- Work standby duty on a designated schedule
- Manage ESA permits and necessary locate requirements
- Manage inventory
- Service and troubleshoot electrical-related issues
- Ensure all work meets ESA and internal requirements
- Complete paperwork as required – job planning, tailboards, timesheets, traffic planning, etc.
- Perform required professional development and safety training
- Other duties as assigned
- Grade 12 diploma from a recognized Secondary School Institution is required
- Must be a fully certified Powerline Technician Journeyperson or currently registered as an apprentice
- Graduation from a recognized post-secondary Powerline Maintainer program is an asset
- Shall possess and maintain a valid Class DZ driver’s license in good standing
- Shall have demonstrated a history of safe work practices
- An exemplary understanding of the electrical power distribution system and regulatory standards is required
- Knowledge of:
- ESA regulations/Electrical Safety Authority Regulation 22/04, Utility Work Protection Code, Electrical Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable legislation
- WHMIS, CPR, First Aid
- Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows PC environment, associated desktop software applications, Auto-CAD, MS Office, and Scada Systems is a definite asset
- Ability to read and interpret distribution system construction drawings and supporting documents
- Thoroughly familiar with equipment, standards and practices, applicable to this type of work
- Must be physically fit and able to perform the essential duties of the classification in all weather conditions
- Must be able to lift various types and weights of equipment, climb poles with spurs, be in confined spaces, operate specific aerial devices and have bucket truck construction experience
- Able to work after standard hours and on-call rotation as well as travel for training and work-related purposes
- Complies with all safety guidelines with high regard for personal and public safety
- Driver abstract
